Project type
Fashion Show
Date
April 2025
Location
Gibbes Museum of Art - Charleston, SC
Role
Designer
This season, Art Charleston fuses canvas and couture with the debut of Sew Surreal—a fashion experience redefining the boundaries of visual art. Set in the Lenhardt Garden of the Gibbes Museum, the show invites an audience of art connoisseurs to the front row, where local designers present capsule collections inspired by works from the museum’s collection.
“My debut collection, Homegrown, is a tribute to my Southern Black heritage and African ancestry, reimagined through contemporary fashion.”
— Jared Major, Designer
Major’s collection draws visual and emotional depth from The Hurricane Scene, a dramatic painting by Serge Soudeikine inspired by the Charleston-set opera Porgy and Bess. The collection further pays tribute to the cultural heritage of the Gullah Geechee people, whose traditions continue to shape the narrative of the Lowcountry.
