MAJOR BY DESIGN

About the Artist

House of Major began its life as Major Vintage, a boutique dedicated to reselling rare vintage finds. As founder and designer Jared Major continued to grow in his artistry and career as a costume designer for film and television, the brand evolved with him.

In 2025, Jared debuted his fashion collection, Homegrown, at the Gibbes Museum of Art for Charleston Art Week, showcasing designs crafted from sustainable materials. That same year, he collaborated with the Charleston Museum, reimagining historic textiles as new garments. These projects reflect his ongoing commitment to sustainable approaches in design.

The Intent

1-of-1 Philosophy: No repeats. Each piece is a singular work of wearable art.

“My uncle, Hezekiah ‘John’ Singleton, was an expert shoe cobbler and leather smith.

For more than three decades, he ran his own shop in North Charleston, South Carolina,

where he repaired shoes, renewed materials, and kept the spirit of craftsmanship alive within his community.

His approach to working with materials was inherently sustainable long before the term became a movement. Inside his workshop, I observed his process of design, repair, and imagination.

Those early lessons made him my first mentor.

His influence lives at the core of House of Major,

where I continue his legacy through my own practice of regenerative design.”
